I started selling Avon because of the ?Speak Out Against Domestic Violence? campaign. I had been a customer and bought a bracelet which came with a booklet. It was eye opening for me as I had been enduring 17 years of being groomed to accept abuse. I felt like I had dissolved away to the point where I no longer remembered my dreams, and ambitions in life. As my marriage was crumbling to an end, I took the kids with me to take a quick look at motorcycles to see if I still liked them like I had as a teenager. My own kids were that age now. 20 minutes later, I was watching the dealer ride my new bike home for me. I now deliver Avon with my 2006 Triumph America most of the time, Only switching to my car when weather is just too dangerous on the motorcycle.
When I signed up to be a representative, I had asked my friends what they thought of me selling Avon. The economy was really bad and I had been working two jobs just to take care of my kids and I. I found that my friends were anxious to buy from me and ready to shop as soon as I was signed up. I figured that I could save more in gas money if I used the motorcycle to deliver products, and found out that it was also a great talk subject too. I discovered that my customers are not only enjoying the Avon products, but also feel encouraged to do more for themselves when they see how I am living my previously lost dreams now. I am also glad to see that even as the economy continues to stay in a slump, I continue to gain customers and sell products relatively effortlessly.
I know my motorcycle is a talk point, but it is not the only reason people buy Avon from me. A photographer and author saw me pull up to her book signing, and she was excited to take a picture of me and my ?Avon bike? to write about in her blog. I've had local papers express interest in writing about me. I find that people are looking for Avon representatives anyway, but when they learn about the positive hobbies and interests of that representative then they are even more interested in engaging in conversation.
It is amazing to me that my interest in riding has generated such interest from the public. I am glad to be proof of how Avon is the company that empowers women. It is fun to meet all the interesting people I get to meet while selling Avon products. Some people tell me of their dreams, and others are a bit more timid in approaching me and ask more questions. I guess I look like the all American girl, and that doesn't fit their image of a person who rides a big black motorcycle. I find that everyone you meet has dreams and is a very interesting person. It is an honor to get to meet my customers and learn more about them. I'm glad to be able to provide them with the skin care and other products they ask for, but also get to learn more about who they are and what they dream.
I think all Avon representatives can do what I do. Not all ladies love to ride motorcycles, but women are wonderful and strong, and hobbies and interests of all kinds can be a door to meet new people and customers.
